About the U.N.V.M. "Talon"
The Ultralight Night Vision Monocular (U.N.V.M.), known as the “Talon,” is an ultralight, full-featured monocular engineered with a cutting-edge carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite to reduce weight and size while significantly improving durability compared to the widely fielded PVS-14, without sacrificing feature set or optics compatibility. The housing weighs only 53 grams in a CR123A configuration, approximately 50% lighter than a standard AA PVS-14 housing (115g).
The Talon is designed for ergonomic use, featuring a single tactile control knob for all device functions. Pressing and holding the knob powers the device on or off, while detented rotation allows gain adjustment. Double-tapping the knob activates the onboard IR illuminator, accompanied by an in-view indicator, which can be tapped once to deactivate. When the IR illuminator is active, rotating the knob adjusts its brightness to the user’s preference. Through the same knob users can disable or enable auto off when stowed. A low battery indicator alerts the user when battery replacement is required.
The Talon supports standard EGAC MX-11769 image intensifier tubes as well as 3-pad MX-11769 European-style tubes without modification and accepts standard PVS-14 mounting J-arms and accessories. The monocular ships with a CR123A battery cap as standard, with AA and CR2 caps available for seamless swapping using the existing battery cap lanyard. The image tube pod is fully interchangeable with the Talon and Raptor binocular product lines.
The U.N.V.M. Talon is designed, machined, molded, and assembled in the United States. For MIL/LE applications, the Talon can be configured with an onboard highlight cutoff sensor by special order.
